Helping immigrants achieve the American dream
As immigration attorneys, we must strongly recommend that any one, citizen or not, traveling to, or through Arizona, carry documentary proof of their citizenship and/or legal immigration status.
If you do not, you risk being arrested under the new anti-immigrant law passed in Arizona.
That is precisely what happened to one US Citizen born in Fresno, California.
Despite the fact that the Arizona anti-immigrant law has not yet gone into effect, Abdon, a Maricopa County Resident and a US born citizen, was arrested because he could not immediately produce his birth certificate.
Arizona’s anti-immigrant law will only produce a steady income to immigration and civil rights attorneys for years to come at the expense of Arizona taxpayers.
Until this law is repealed and reason is restored in Arizona, you must carry evidence of your US Citizenship — a US passport, your birth certificate, or your Certificate of Naturalization — with you to avoid the possibility of arrest. If your are not a citizen, you must carry your green card or your valid I-94 and passport to prove that you are authorized to be in the US.
